Why Bathrooms Fail, and How We Waterproof Ours

Tile and grout are not waterproof. Water always finds a way through, and what happens next decides whether your bathroom lasts five years or twenty. In every shower we build, the tile goes over a bonded sheet membrane system with a pre-sloped pan, so any water that gets past the grout is directed to the drain instead of into the framing. We do not use paper-faced drywall anywhere near wet areas, we size the exhaust fan correctly and duct it fully outside, and we flood-test every shower pan for twenty-four hours with photos before the first tile is set. It adds a day or two to the schedule and saves you from the kind of repair that starts with a stain on the ceiling below.
