Choosing Stone: Quartz, Quartzite, or Marble
Quartz is engineered stone: consistent in color, non-porous, and the most forgiving surface you can put in a kitchen. It never needs sealing and shrugs off wine, oil and coffee. Quartzite is a natural stone that looks like marble but behaves closer to granite: harder, more heat tolerant, and it still needs periodic sealing. Marble is the most beautiful of the three to most people, and the most honest about use: it will etch from acids and develop a patina over time, which some owners love and others resent. Our advice is simple. If you want zero maintenance, choose quartz. If you want natural movement with reasonable durability, choose quartzite. Choose marble only if you will enjoy watching it age.
